Exploring Health and Wellness at the Brussels Event
Tommy had always been curious about health and wellness trends but never really dove deep into them. This year, he decided to attend a special event in Brussels, a city known for its vibrant culture and innovative health practices. The event had been growing in popularity over the past decade, and Tommy felt it was the perfect opportunity to explore new health experiences.
When Tommy arrived, he was greeted by a bustling atmosphere filled with various activities and booths. He decided to dive right in and explore everything the event had to offer. His first stop was a basketball area where he joined a local club to shoot some hoops. Although he missed a few shots initially, he quickly got the hang of it and started hitting the net consistently on the outer circle.
After the first round it was time to do it on time. The record was 50 seconds and Tommy was challenged to beat it. He started in the inner circle, and had two good shots, but started to miss on the 3rd and 4th. It didn’t stop there as he was in the middle of the outer ring he began to choke and miss too many shots losing up to 15 seconds, and with a nickel he managed to do it in 1 minute.
Next, Tommy encountered a company offering free health checks, including DNA analysis and VO2 max testing. Intrigued, he decided to give it a try. He disclosed his weight and height, and after lying down for the test, he received results indicating he was average for his age group. It wasn’t a groundbreaking revelation, but it was interesting to learn more about his physical capabilities.
As he continued to explore, Tommy came across a booth selling a device designed to improve lung capacity. They had a challenge to see how much pressure participants could exert with their lungs. Tommy gave it a shot and placed second with a score of 5.5. Although other participants scored higher, he felt proud of his achievement.
Later, Tommy met a man who was an avid practitioner of cold plunges. The man explained the benefits of this practice, such as boosting the immune system and helping regulate body temperature. Despite his initial skepticism, Tommy decided to give it a try. He changed into swimwear and joined a group in the sauna, where a man used a whip to circulate the heat, making it feel much hotter.
After the sauna session, they moved to the cold plunges. At first, Tommy found the water extremely cold, but as he immersed himself, he realized it was manageable. His legs weren’t feeling that cold probably because he had exposed his legs to the cold during winter. It was his upper body that felt the extreme cold. However, he managed to stay in the water for about 3 minutes, a significant improvement from his initial attempts.
When they got out of the cold plunge, the man asked Tommy how he was feeling and it was impressive he could stay in the water for 3 minutes. Tommy responded it was not that bad, but it felt worse around the upper body probably because it is usually covered during winter, where his legs are exposed during winter. The man replied that it can make sense why Tommy was able to stay in the water, but he also mentioned that his legs are not the worst either. It is dominantly the upper body that feels the cold the most.
After the cold plunge and sauna, Tommy went home and was thinking about the day. Tommy realized that exposing the body to both heat and cold could help regulate temperature and maintain calmness. He also considered that perhaps one doesn’t need to endure extreme cold to get those benefits, but just be outside when it is cold. One thing he noticed at the event was the high focus on delivering products that didn’t have toxic chemicals and provided great benefits. People had a big sense that change needs to happen in the healthcare system, but also the audience were health oriented people, but a lot of them just did the latest trend and wanted quick fixes.
